Have you ever found yourself discussing wall color ideas with your family, partner, or roommate while flipping through paint swatches? Wouldn’t it be incredible if you could access a vast selection of swatches and expert-recommended colors instantly, and project them into your physical space using Augmented Reality?
Thanks to a collaboration between Bajibot and Yahoo Creative Studio, this vision became a reality for the esteemed Canadian premium paint brand SICO. Together, we conceived, designed, and developed a web application that can be easily accessed via any smartphone. The SICO Paint AR experience presents seasonal interior color trends and the most popular shades for users to project directly into their rooms, facilitating the sharing of color ideas. The application seamlessly directs users to sico.ca, where they can purchase the paint they’ve selected.
Leveraging the 8th Wall AR engine, we eliminated the need for users to download a separate app from an app store. Instead, they can access the experience through a QR code within a Yahoo article’s banner ad. However, we encountered a minor technical challenge during this process – the need to anchor the AR paint swatch vertically to a wall. To overcome this obstacle, we ingeniously devised a UX and UI solution that allows users to calibrate the anchoring to the floor surface while making it appear as though they are anchoring it to their wall. The end result was a seamless and user-friendly experience!
The PPG SICO AR Paint campaign spanned for just two months and garnered over 15,000 unique user engagements and over 65,000 events!
