Bajibot’s long time partner threw us another challenge right at the start of 2023: to make the best automotive Web AR ad! In 2023, for the first time in over 50 years, Toyota is releasing its top-of-the-line premium sedan, Crown, to the US market. In a bold and fearless fashion, the 2023 Toyota Crown is pushing boundaries and resetting the bar. Bajibot is taking on the challenge to show off this incredible vehicle right in your own living room through Web AR technology.
With Toyota being one of Yahoo’s high profile clients, this project attracted a lot of attention within Yahoo and within Toyota’s AOR Saatchi. The first challenge we faced was obtaining security clearance from Toyota and Saatchi Garage to access the high security profile 3D source file of the vehicle. Bajibot has been working on various Toyota projects throughout the years and we were familiar with the security-vetting process and requirements.
The next challenge was to effectively optimize the hyper-detailed 3D model supplied by Toyota. The 3D source file that was supplied by the client contained millions of polygons and gigabytes in file size. In order to use this file, we needed to optimize/ scale the size down to 8thWall’s (the Web AR platform) required file size limit. Our 3D team worked their magic and managed to successfully reduce the poly-count to 1/35th of its original size, while also reducing the file from a staggering 1.5 gigs to only 30mb without losing any vehicle fidelity!
The Toyota Crown AR experience allows users to project a life-size, photorealistic Toyota Crown right into their physical space with interactive hotspots featuring all the highlights of the vehicle. Users can go inside and sit in the drivers seat to check out the prestigious interior of the Crown in 360 3D VR! But that’s not all. An added Test-Drive feature lets users take the car out for a spin!
Web AR is one of the verticals within the Web3 movement that’s growing stronger, unlike NTFs and the Metaverse. The utility and entertainment aspects provide high incentive value to the Toyota branded ad on Yahoo. The low barrier to engage with this immersive experience is the key to its success, and the immersive AR experience deepens positive Yahoo/Toyota brand experience.
